Morphological Interpolation

INTRODUCTION Mathematical morphology offers some powerful tools for the image interpolation. The idea of the application of mathematical morphology to the image interpolation has been introduced in 1994 in the Center of Mathematical Morphology of Paris School of Mines. The basics of the morphological interpolation methods and the majority of the interpolation algorithms was developed by J.Serra [Ser3,Ser4], F.Meyer [Mey1,Mey2] and S.Beucher [Beu1,Beu2]. This paper describes some of the existing interpolation methods offered by mathematical morphology. It contains also a description of possible extensions of these methods. First section describes existing methods of the morphological interpolation of sets (binary images). Second one is dedicated to the interpolation methods of graytone and mosaic images. Third section includes two extensions of interpolation methods described in the second section: interpolation of color images using the morphological median, and warped morphological median.
